One Poem:

One poem I consider to be a piece of work that is really working is my second free poem, titled Teamwork. Although this was one my shorter poems, it still has a lot to offer to the reader. The thought is that you can accomplish goals on your own, but when you have a team working with you by your side, you can accomplish way more together. You can see this at the end of the poem when I state, “Alone it’s not easy to redeem, Imagine what I can do with a TEAM.” When you have multiple people working towards a common result, your work gets done quicker, more efficiently, and most importantly helps you gain trust. Having other people who are stronger in areas that you aren’t as strong in, makes it easier to overcome obstacles. That is the message I was trying to get across through my poem, Teamwork. I wanted people to understand the fact that, in a smaller sense, two is greater than one. Two minds are smarter than one.

Changes:

After completing my poetry portfolio, I’ve taken the time to look over my final work and find things that I might do a little differently if I was given the chance to.  Over the course of the poetry portion of the creative writing class, I’ve learned what real poetry is and what my work has the potential to be. I would like to write much longer pieces of poetry in order to portray words that are much deeper and connect with the reader in a way that they can feel or relate to in their own lives.  I think that is what poetry is all about, making the reader see themselves when reading your poems. I’d also like to switch up the flow on some of my pieces. By that I mean make some of the lines more fluent and smoother to read. Some of my poems’ lines have more syllables in stanzas that just make the fluidity a little choppy. I think that if I can find the right vocabulary and set it up in lines that match the pattern of syllables, then the reader will not only understand my message better, but will also enjoy reading the actual poem.
